Our KYSHRM Council Supports Phased-In Approach to Final Overtime Salary Threshold

The clock is ticking down to the December 1st effective date under the Department of Labor’s (DOL’s) final overtime rule, and Congress needs to hear from HR voters in their states and communities today about reasonable legislative proposals that both Democrats and Republicans can support.

While SHRM supports an increase to the salary threshold, a 100 percent increase in one year is simply too far and too fast. SHRM’s comment letter, filed last fall with ALL 50 SHRM state councils and 307 SHRM chapters, supported a phased-in approach to the final overtime salary threshold and removal of the automatic salary threshold escalator provisions.

KYSHRM signed on in support of both bills that would phase-in the final overtime salary threshold by providing a letter similar to the one from the SHRM-chaired employer coalition, the Partnership to Protect Workplace Opportunity.
