Job Description

Primary Purpose:
The successful candidate for this position will be responsible to the President for developing and achieving all HR and Corporate Development aspects of the corporate strategic vision. This will involve meeting agreed goals by managing and enforcing change initiatives, determining HR policies, and providing HR services that will facilitate a culture involving significant employee engagement in the business activities of all the North American business units. The Director will introduce appropriate talent management and sustainable organization development practices required to satisfy both the corporate and individual needs of a rapidly developing international company.

Primary Functions

  • Drive the improvement of business practices to ensure legal compliance and fair treatment of employees
  • Develop, implement, and enforce all Human Resource policies, procedures, and programs in a manner that will allow us to provide a positive and productive working environment for all employees
  • Work with legal counsel to represent and defend the company in any employment related legal actions. Communicate the status of any such issues to the President and executive management team
  • Manage all unemployment and worker's compensation issues. Represent the company in mediations and legal proceedings, as necessary. Serve as primary liaison with outside legal counsel for labor and policy issues. Ensure timely reporting of all local, state and federal related programs
  • Develop and maintain a competitive compensation and benefit program by understanding and monitoring local labor markets and by successfully negotiating and evaluating all employee benefit contracts
  • Develop, budget, and manage annual corporate development programs, employee training, and associated HR activities
  • Counsel managers in the discipline and discharge process; counsel employees on job-related and personal problems
  • Provide advice and guidance regarding the interpretation of personnel policies as they relate to individuals and company objectives
  • Directly manage recruitment, interviewing, and hiring process for executive management positions in coordination with the executive management team
  • Develop and guide the human resources team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or comparable degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive career experience in Human Resources, service industry experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws pertaining to employment
  • SPHR preferred
  • Travel is required (approximately 1 day a week); international travel possible

The following opening exists with the KCTCS System Office.  KCTCS System Office oversees the operation and management of the entire system including community and technical colleges throughout the state.

Official Title of Position: Senior Administrative Assistant
Department: Office of Institutional Advancement

Provides administrative support for high level Administrator, involving a wide variety of administrative functions for which the assistant assumes a lead responsibility as the delegate of the administrator. 
This position is classified as a regular, full-time position and is eligible for KCTCS’ generous benefits package.  All positions with the KCTCS System Office are hired on a contract basis, with the expectancy of continuance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Create and maintain confidential KCTCS donor and alumni files
  • Record and maintain donor information, gifts, pledges, and pledge payments on PeopleSoft Contributor Relations
  • Record all gifts on cash receipt form
  • Run weekly Fulfilling the Promise Campaign Reports and monthly Gift in Kind Reports
  • Assist System Director of Development in implementation of solicitation, and recognition programs for System and College level donors
  • Prepare communications to KCTCS/college level donors including acknowledgement letters from the KCTCS President and the Vice President, scholarship information, and endowment reports
  • Prepare materials and communications and provide support and assistance to the 17 development offices on KCTCS college campuses and their recognized foundations across the state
  • Create (using a variety of software), proofread, and edit correspondence, reports, presentations, spreadsheets and other documents from written and printed material or dictation equipment
  • Assist with Advancement Team meetings by retrieving appropriate reports, files, and materials, assimilating packets, taking notes, and preparing minutes
  • Route and retain endowment agreements in coordination with the System Director of Development, the KCTCS Assistant Treasurer, Legal Services, and President’s Office
  • Arrange and schedule teleconferences and meetings, rooms, catering, and equipment
  • Schedules travel arrangements and process travel expenses and reimbursements
  • Review and screen directors’ mail, answer telephone and relay accurate messages, and maintains calendars
  • Other duties as assigned
     

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree plus three years related experience; or equivalent.  Experience in higher education and resource development is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all Microsoft Office suite software (Outlook, Word Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
  • Work experience in a computer network environment helpful
  • Previous experience with PeopleSoft is desired
  • Word processing speed of 55-65 words per minute required
  • Ability to function and make positive contribution as a member of a team of highly skilled professionals
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment over areas of responsibility
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational skills to simultaneously perform multiple assignments and prioritize work
  • Ability to compose correspondence and edit complex documents with attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic is highly valued
  • Commitment to maintaining strict guidelines for confidentiality and ethics
